As creepy as it sounds, when he is not looking I am watching him.  I watch him walk away and can’t help but stare at his cute butt as he unconsciously struts his stuff. I watch him when he interacts with people and somehow always makes them laugh and smile.  I watch him as he sleeps (see told ya creepster, LOL) and I think, “Man we have been through some shit!”  Our relationship grew into what it is now. Jason and I have known each other since about 2003. We used to teach Security Forces technical school together.  He is just as hilarious now as he was back then. I am lucky and grateful God allowed our paths to cross so many years later. I am so happy to have him as my best friend!

Here are some tips to keep you focused on that finish line (time you finally get back together)!

1. POINTS

Unfortunately, and not for long…we have been separated for about 10 months.

Now wait!  Our jobs have allowed us to travel, which helped build our points so we have been fortunate to see each other for a few days almost every month.  If you have not signed up for sky miles, you are missing out!  You would be surprised how a few trips can equal some quality time together!

2. TRUST

Without trust, you have nothing!  Long distance relationships are not for everyone.  It has taken me some time to find the right person to spend “mi vida loca” with. Not to mention, my significant other HAD to mesh well with my little one.  She is my life and my reason for existing.  My recommendation is when that initial separation time begins,  sit and have a “family” meeting.  Well, first a one-on-one with your Man/Woman and explain your expectations and how you promise to be in the relationship.  Then, have that “all together” talk to explain how things might be until everyone is united again.

3. INVEST

Yes, in electronic something!  I favor Apple products because they work so well together.  FaceTime is just a Godsend!  See…. watching him sleep, HAHAHAHAH! This is great for daily interaction and other unmentionables. ;-)

4. WORKOUT together

We try to do video cardio workouts together and then have our own workout regimen so we still have our own mental/physical time for ourselves.  There is nothing like keeping a workout appointment with your partner.  It makes you accountable and it’s fun to motivate one another.   I mean, after all the next time you see them again you want to make sure your body is rockin!

5.  PlaytimeInk inside out-anna castillo-lover’s lane-How to Survive a Long Distance Relationship-April-2015

Yes…this is him 100% of the time!  You would think I would have a six-pack already from laughing so hard.  Look, why be in any relationship if you don’t have that balance?  You should have fun with the one you love. Enjoy each other’s passions and support each other’s ideas.  Of course he is a CATM guy and soon to be Federal Agent again!  #GodisGreat! As some of you may know, not only am I a cosmetics owner and a makeup artist, my primary job is a Federal Agent for the #USAF with focus on #forensic science, so shooting practice for us is both a love and necessity.

6.  Quality Time

Okay, lean in…let me tell you something special…When they are home, enjoy and cherish every freaking moment they are with you!  You may not know the next time you will be together.  Unless you are Rockefeller, you may not be able to afford monthly cross country trips to keep that romance alive.

Doing small things like making at home desserts and cooking together does wonders for the growth of your love.  Always, compliment each other, hold one another, kiss, make love, take a walk in the park, visit your favorite antique store, or enjoy a candle light dinner with your entire family.  Don’t hoard them, share them.  More than likely everyone in the home is missing your loved one.  I say skip the movies; why sit in a quiet place for hours when you can enjoy catching up in person?

7. FOCUS…

The end result! Having them home, safe in your arms again.  Try not to count down the days.  Wait, love is patient! Keep yourself busy! The time will fly by, I promise!  Surround yourself with only positivity and diss the nonbelievers.  Know that your one true love is so worth the wait!

I love you Jason! Thank you for being my rock, my best friend, and my love!

XOXO besos,

Anna Castillo
